Trends come and go, but there are some things that you can always rely on not to start sucking (Unlike, y’know, Lost or Heroes), and one of the most reliable things on the geek landscape has always been Sideshow Collectibles. Offering up a range of pop culture memorabilia literally second to none, and maintaining a ridiculously high level of quality that many companies can only dream of (and who don’t attain it by cutting corners when mass producing junk). Sideshow is one of the most beautiful aspects of this era of fandom.

The Joys of USB Turntables

January 13, 2010 By: Geek Category: Geek Gadgets

31onlXQ6r0L. SL160 The Joys of USB TurntablesWe’re seeing 2010 as a new start, and one of the big things we’ve all agreed on is that we have too much stuff around that we don’t use, including a big stack of vinyl. Thus the subject of a USB turntable came up, and our problems were solved. These things are great for people who ant to be able to archive their records for whatever purpose. Our reason was that we wanted to keep the music we’d loved while the records were still playable, and then eBay the vinyl so someone else could enjoy it all. It’s worked out well, as we found the things really easy to use and very reliable.

USB turntables have been around a while, and are superb ideas for serious music lovers everywhere. Thanks to their ease of use and tthe range of models from the budget variety up to hugely expensive professional editions, everyone can get in on act. Aside from installing some drivers, they’re pretty damn simple to set up, and the results you can get from transferring vinyl recordings to MP3 files are really quite impressive. If you’ve got a collection of vinyl you want to keep on enjoying long after the records themselves have either been thrown away or have deteriorated, then looking for one of the best USB turntables is the thing for you. We’re sold.

Star Wars Science Toys For Geeks Old and Young This Christmas

December 14, 2009 By: Geek Category: Geek Gifts

41hJuhNpkOL. SL500 Star Wars Science Toys For Geeks Old and Young This ChristmasThe Force is strong with these Christmas gifts. There’s a great range of Star wars related science toys out there under the name of, surprisingly, Star Wars Science, and they’re a cool and quirky idea for older geeks and an awesome idea for kids. Helping kids to learn a few scientific facts via the medium of Star Wars is a great thing, I mean, wouldn’t science classes be much more fun if they involved droids and force trainers? Actually, they’d be even better if everyone had to wear Jedi robes and could learn how to make lighsabers, but I digress. There are some awesome toys available in this range, which would make great Christmas gift ideas for the geeks in your life no matter their age. The most popular right now would be the Star Wars Force Trainer toy, which allows the user to control the Force Trainer WITH THE POWER OF THE MIND. Sorry, that should be MIIIIIIIND. Other awesome toys in this range include the Star Wars Science Jedi Telescope and the equally geektastic Star Wars Science Optical Command Unit. These are sure to have your Star Wars fans yelling ‘Utini’ at the top of their voices this Christmas.
